NEC4 Excellence
Programme

Contract preparation, team capability and support through live project delivery.

Beyond contract training

Putting NEC4 into practice

The programme is for organisations preparing to use NEC4 or seeking to improve its administration on live projects. Successful use of the contract depends on clear responsibilities, authority to make decisions and procedures for managing the programme, risk and change.

Steven Evans leads the work, drawing on more than 25 years of NEC experience. The four stages cover preparation, training, implementation and review. Organisations can commission the full programme or select the work needed for a particular project or team.

The four stages

Open a stage to see the work and examples of the outputs. The scope and deliverables are agreed for each assignment.

01

NEC4 readiness

Prepare the contract, the project and the people responsible for delivery.

Example outputs

A contract and document review with recommended changes, together with a record of responsibilities, delegated authority and decisions needed before work starts.

What this can include

  • Procurement and contract strategy
  • Contract drafting and amendment reviews
  • Scope and Site Information development
  • Governance and role alignment
  • Authority and decision-making frameworks
02

Capability development

Develop the knowledge and skills teams need for their NEC4 roles.

Example outputs

A role-based training plan, courses and workshops using project scenarios, and an agreed list of topics requiring follow-up.

What this can include

  • Role-based NEC4 training
  • Project Manager, commercial and planning workshops
  • Exercises using project scenarios
  • Mentoring and coaching
  • Follow-up sessions on project procedures

Content, level and duration are agreed for each team.

03

Operational implementation

Put NEC4 processes and workflows into practice on live projects.

Example outputs

Agreed procedures for notices, programme review and compensation events, with responsibilities and response times recorded.

What this can include

  • Early warning and compensation event workshops
  • Project simulations
  • Programme management workshops
  • Workflow development
  • Live project support
04

Governance & maturity

Review how NEC4 is working and agree changes to procedures and oversight.

Example outputs

A review report identifying gaps in practice, with prioritised actions, responsible people and review dates.

What this can include

  • NEC4 maturity assessments
  • Governance and procedure reviews
  • Project controls integration
  • Operational improvement planning
  • Performance monitoring

Delivery that fits the assignment

The scope can be shaped around your projects, people and existing governance arrangements. You do not need to commission every stage.

Individual modules or the full programme

Use selected elements for a specific need, or combine the four stages.

One project or the organisation

Work with a delivery team or develop capability across multiple projects.

Workshops or ongoing support

Focused sessions, mentoring and support through implementation.

Your existing systems and team

Work alongside internal teams, consultants and delivery partners.
